Author Shirley Reva Vernick discusses her latest novel, Ripped Away. It is a YA mystery featuring a teen boy named Abe, his crush Mitzy, a fortune teller’s prophecy, time travel, the slums of Victorian London and Jack the Ripper. The novel is based on real historic events, including the Ripper crimes and inquests, as well as the accusations made against Jewish immigrants at that time. Shirley hopes her books inspire teens to consider their own responses to intolerance and learn the importance of helping others.
